NerdQAxe++
The NerdQAxe++ is an open-source home miner with four Bitmain BM1370 chips, the chip used in the Bitaxe Gamma. It hashes about 4.8 TH/s on 72 to 76 W, runs from a 12 V supply that sellers usually include, and is set up over 2.4 GHz WiFi in a browser dashboard forked from AxeOS.

Good and less good
Good
- About four Bitaxe Gammas of hashrate in one box, with one supply and one dashboard.
- Better efficiency than most small miners, under 16 J/TH.
- Open hardware and firmware, actively maintained.
Less good
- Noticeably louder and warmer than a Bitaxe; not for a bedroom.
- At about 4.8 TH/s, a solo block is still very unlikely. Expect small pool shares.
- About 670 kWh a year, which adds up on expensive electricity.
Set it up on DirectPool
The NerdQAxe++ firmware is a fork of AxeOS, so setup works like a Bitaxe: a web dashboard served by the miner at the IP address shown on its screen.
- Stratum Host
- stratum.directpool.io
- Stratum Port
- 3333
- Stratum User
- your_bc1_address.worker_name
- Password
- x
Replace your_bc1_address with a Bitcoin address you control (bc1 or 3). The part after the dot is a name for this machine, so you can tell your miners apart. Addresses starting with 1 are not accepted.
- 1.Power the miner on. On first boot it opens its own WiFi hotspot called named after the device. Join it from your phone or laptop.
- 2.A setup page should open by itself. If not, go to http://192.168.4.1 in a browser.
- 3.Enter your home WiFi name and password. It must be a 2.4 GHz network. The miner restarts and joins your WiFi, and its screen shows its new IP address.
- 4.Type that IP address into a browser on the same network to open AxeOS, then open Settings (on newer versions, the Pool tab).
- 5.Fill in the four pool fields with the values above, click Save, then Restart.
Common mistakes
- Putting stratum+tcp:// in the Stratum Host field. AxeOS wants the bare host name, with the port in its own field.
- Typing the Bitcoin address by hand. Copy and paste it from your wallet so one wrong character does not send rewards nowhere.
- Using a 5 GHz network, or a router that mixes 2.4 and 5 GHz under one name. If the miner will not connect, give the 2.4 GHz band its own name.
- Forgetting to click Restart after Save. The new pool is only used after the restart.
- Flashing Bitaxe firmware. The NerdQAxe++ needs its own firmware from the ESP-Miner-NerdQAxePlus releases.
- Boxing it in a cupboard. At 76 W it needs free airflow around the fan and heatsink.
After a few minutes, paste your address on the pool page to see the machine. Small miners can take a while to send their first share.

Electricity cost
Running all year at about 76 W, the NerdQAxe++ uses about 666 kWh a year.
| Price per kWh | Per year | Per month |

Questions
- NerdQAxe++ or Bitaxe Gamma?
- The NerdQAxe++ has four times the chips and about four times the hashrate and power. Choose it if you want more hashrate in one box and do not mind the noise; choose the Gamma for a quiet desk miner.
- What is the difference between the NerdQAxe+ and the NerdQAxe++?
- The NerdQAxe+ uses four older BM1368 chips. The NerdQAxe++ uses four BM1370 chips, which are faster and more efficient.
- Which settings do I enter for DirectPool?
- In the dashboard settings: Stratum Host stratum.directpool.io, Stratum Port 3333, Stratum User your bc1 address plus .worker, Password x. Save, then Restart.
- How loud is the NerdQAxe++?
- Around 40 dB, similar to a desktop PC working hard. Fine in an office or garage, noticeable in a quiet room.
- How much electricity does it use?
- About 670 kWh a year at 76 W, so about 133 a year at 0.20 per kWh.
- Does it need a special power supply?
- It needs 12 V DC. Most sellers include a 12 V 10 A adapter; if you buy a bare board, get one rated at least that high.
