Lucky Miner LV08

by Lucky Miner (DigLucky), 4x BM1366

The Lucky Miner LV08 is a boxed home miner with four Bitmain BM1366 chips. It hashes about 4.5 TH/s on about 120 W, has two fans and a screen, ships with its power supply, and is set up over a WiFi hotspot in a browser. It matches a NerdQAxe++ in hashrate but uses more power.

Good and less good

Good

  • About 4.5 TH/s in a finished case with power supply, no assembly.
  • Simple hotspot setup.
  • Screen shows hashrate and IP at a glance.

Less good

  • About 27 J/TH: noticeably less efficient than a NerdQAxe++ (about 16 J/TH) at the same hashrate.
  • About 1,050 kWh a year, so running costs add up.
  • Two fans at about 40 dB; not for a bedroom.
  • Even at 4.5 TH/s, a solo block is a long shot. Expect small pool shares.

Set it up on DirectPool

The LV08 uses the same hotspot and browser setup as the smaller Lucky Miners. After the first setup, open the IP address shown on its screen to change settings.

Changing the location only changes the address shown above. Copy it into your miner settings and restart or reconnect the miner. Miners already connected stay where they are. Every server mines the same pool, with the same payouts.

Replace your_bc1_address with a Bitcoin address you control (bc1 or 3). The part after the dot is a name for this machine, so you can tell your miners apart. Addresses starting with 1 are not accepted.

  1. 1.Plug in the included power adapter. The screen lights up and the miner opens a WiFi hotspot named Lucky_ followed by a few characters.
  2. 2.Join that hotspot from your phone or laptop. The setup page opens by itself; if not, go to http://192.168.4.1.
  3. 3.Enter your home WiFi name and password (2.4 GHz only), then the pool values above.
  4. 4.Click Save, then Restart. The miner joins your WiFi and shows its new IP address on the screen. Open that address later to check hashrate or change settings.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the factory pool in place. Units ship pointed at a default pool; replace all four fields.
  • Host format: the bare host name works on current firmware. If an older unit refuses to connect, try stratum+tcp://stratum.directpool.io in the Stratum URL field, with 3333 still in Stratum Port.
  • Typing the Bitcoin address by hand. Copy and paste it from your wallet.
  • Using a 5 GHz network or a router that mixes both bands under one name.
  • Placing it on a shelf with the fan outlets blocked. At 120 W it needs free airflow.

After a few minutes, paste your address on the pool page to see the machine. Small miners can take a while to send their first share.

Questions

Lucky Miner LV08 or NerdQAxe++?
Both do about 4.5 to 4.8 TH/s. The NerdQAxe++ uses about 76 W against 120 W and is open source; the LV08 is a finished boxed product and is sometimes cheaper.
Lucky Miner LV08 or Bitaxe Gamma?
The LV08 hashes almost four times as fast but uses more than six times the power. The Gamma is quieter, cheaper to run and fully open.
Which settings do I enter for DirectPool?
Stratum URL stratum.directpool.io, Stratum Port 3333, Stratum User your bc1 address plus .worker, Password x. Save, then Restart.
How much does it cost to run?
About 1,050 kWh a year at 120 W, so about 210 a year at 0.20 per kWh.
Does the LV08 come with a power supply?
Yes, the listings we checked include one. It plugs into a normal 100 to 240 V wall socket.
