NerdOctaxe Gamma
The NerdOctaxe Gamma is an open-source miner with eight Bitmain BM1370 chips under two tower heatsinks. It hashes about 9.6 TH/s at stock, up to about 12 TH/s tuned, for 160 to 200 W. It needs a 12 V supply with an XT60 plug and is set up in an AxeOS-style browser dashboard.

Good and less good
Good
- About two NerdQAxe++ units of hashrate in one board.
- Efficient for a small open miner, around 16 to 17 J/TH.
- Open hardware and firmware with an active community.
Less good
- Loud (around 45 dB) and gives off about as much heat as a small space heater on low.
- About 1,500 kWh a year: the electricity bill matters at this size.
- Bare board with tall coolers, so it needs a safe spot away from kids, pets and dust.
- Even at 10 TH/s, a solo block is unlikely. Pool shares are the realistic outcome.
Set it up on DirectPool
The NerdOctaxe runs the same AxeOS-based firmware family as the NerdQAxe++. You configure it from the web dashboard at the IP address shown on its screen.
- Stratum Host
- stratum.directpool.io
- Stratum Port
- 3333
- Stratum User
- your_bc1_address.worker_name
- Password
- x
Replace your_bc1_address with a Bitcoin address you control (bc1 or 3). The part after the dot is a name for this machine, so you can tell your miners apart. Addresses starting with 1 are not accepted.
- 1.Power the miner on. On first boot it opens its own WiFi hotspot called named after the device. Join it from your phone or laptop.
- 2.A setup page should open by itself. If not, go to http://192.168.4.1 in a browser.
- 3.Enter your home WiFi name and password. It must be a 2.4 GHz network. The miner restarts and joins your WiFi, and its screen shows its new IP address.
- 4.Type that IP address into a browser on the same network to open AxeOS, then open Settings (on newer versions, the Pool tab).
- 5.Fill in the four pool fields with the values above, click Save, then Restart.
Common mistakes
- Putting stratum+tcp:// in the Stratum Host field. AxeOS wants the bare host name, with the port in its own field.
- Typing the Bitcoin address by hand. Copy and paste it from your wallet so one wrong character does not send rewards nowhere.
- Using a 5 GHz network, or a router that mixes 2.4 and 5 GHz under one name. If the miner will not connect, give the 2.4 GHz band its own name.
- Forgetting to click Restart after Save. The new pool is only used after the restart.
- Using an undersized 12 V supply. Eight chips at full load pull around 200 W through the XT60 plug.
- Placing it where hot air builds up. Give it open space, ideally in a ventilated room or garage.
After a few minutes, paste your address on the pool page to see the machine. Small miners can take a while to send their first share.

Electricity cost
Running all year at about 170 W, the NerdOctaxe Gamma uses about 1,490 kWh a year.
| Price per kWh | Per year | Per month |

Questions
- NerdOctaxe or two NerdQAxe++?
- Similar total hashrate. The NerdOctaxe is one device and one supply; two NerdQAxe++ cost about the same, are a bit quieter each and keep half your hashrate if one fails.
- What power supply does the NerdOctaxe need?
- A 12 V DC supply with an XT60 connector, rated for about 200 W or more. Check whether your seller includes one.
- Which settings do I enter for DirectPool?
- In the dashboard settings: Stratum Host stratum.directpool.io, Stratum Port 3333, Stratum User your bc1 address plus .worker, Password x. Save, then Restart.
- How much electricity does it use?
- About 1,500 kWh a year at 170 W, so about 300 a year at 0.20 per kWh.
- Can it heat a room?
- A little. 170 W of heat is noticeable in a small room in winter, but much less than a normal 1,500 W heater.
