Single-chip open miners

Lucky Miner LV07

by Lucky Miner (DigLucky), 2x BM1366

The Lucky Miner LV07 is a small cased Bitcoin lottery miner with two Bitmain BM1366 chips. It hashes about 1 TH/s on 25 to 30 W, comes with a power adapter, and is set up through its own WiFi hotspot in a browser. It roughly doubles an LV06 but is less efficient than a Bitaxe Gamma.

Good and less good

Good

  • About 1 TH/s in a ready-made case, adapter included.
  • Simple hotspot setup, no flashing needed.
  • Often cheaper than a Bitaxe Gamma.

Less good

  • Uses about 50% more power than a Bitaxe Gamma for slightly less hashrate.
  • Vendor firmware, and listings often overstate the hashrate.
  • At about 1 TH/s, solo blocks are very unlikely; pool payouts are small.

Set it up on DirectPool

The LV07 is configured from a browser page. On first boot you reach it through the miner's hotspot; afterwards, through the IP address on its screen.

Changing the location only changes the address shown above. Copy it into your miner settings and restart or reconnect the miner. Miners already connected stay where they are. Every server mines the same pool, with the same payouts.

Replace your_bc1_address with a Bitcoin address you control (bc1 or 3). The part after the dot is a name for this machine, so you can tell your miners apart. Addresses starting with 1 are not accepted.

  1. 1.Plug in the included power adapter. The screen lights up and the miner opens a WiFi hotspot named Lucky_ followed by a few characters.
  2. 2.Join that hotspot from your phone or laptop. The setup page opens by itself; if not, go to http://192.168.4.1.
  3. 3.Enter your home WiFi name and password (2.4 GHz only), then the pool values above.
  4. 4.Click Save, then Restart. The miner joins your WiFi and shows its new IP address on the screen. Open that address later to check hashrate or change settings.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the factory pool in place. Units ship pointed at a default pool; replace all four fields.
  • Host format: the bare host name works on current firmware. If an older unit refuses to connect, try stratum+tcp://stratum.directpool.io in the Stratum URL field, with 3333 still in Stratum Port.
  • Typing the Bitcoin address by hand. Copy and paste it from your wallet.
  • Using a 5 GHz network or a router that mixes both bands under one name.

After a few minutes, paste your address on the pool page to see the machine. Small miners can take a while to send their first share.

Questions

Lucky Miner LV07 or Bitaxe Gamma?
They hash about the same, but the Gamma uses about 18 W against 25 to 30 W and runs fully open firmware. The LV07 comes cased with an adapter and is often cheaper.
LV07 or LV06?
The LV07 has two chips and about twice the hashrate and power of the single-chip LV06.
Which settings do I enter for DirectPool?
Stratum URL stratum.directpool.io, Stratum Port 3333, Stratum User your bc1 address plus .worker, Password x. Save, then Restart.
How loud is it?
About 38 dB, a steady fan noise. Fine in an office or living room.
How much does it cost to run?
About 245 kWh a year at 28 W, so about 49 a year at 0.20 per kWh.
