Lucky Miner LV06

by Lucky Miner (DigLucky), BM1366

The Lucky Miner LV06 is a low-cost Bitcoin lottery miner based on the Bitaxe Ultra design. One Bitmain BM1366 chip gives about 500 GH/s for 13 to 15 W. It comes in a small case with a screen, fan and 5 V adapter, and is set up through its own WiFi hotspot in a browser.

Good and less good

Good

  • One of the cheapest ways to run a real ASIC.
  • Comes cased with a screen and power adapter: plug in and set up.
  • Low power, about 120 kWh a year.

Less good

  • Less efficient than a Bitaxe Gamma: about the same power for less than half the hashrate.
  • Stock firmware is controlled by the vendor; switching to community firmware is possible but at your own risk.
  • At 0.5 TH/s, a solo block is a very long shot. Pool rewards will be tiny.
  • Quality varies between resellers, and many listings exaggerate the hashrate.

Set it up on DirectPool

The LV06 has a browser setup page. On first boot you reach it through the miner's own WiFi hotspot; afterwards, through the IP address on its screen.

Changing the location only changes the address shown above. Copy it into your miner settings and restart or reconnect the miner. Miners already connected stay where they are. Every server mines the same pool, with the same payouts.

This measures your browser connection, not your miner or the full relay-to-pool path.

Replace your_bc1_address with a Bitcoin address you control (bc1 or 3). The part after the dot is a name for this machine, so you can tell your miners apart. Addresses starting with 1 are not accepted.

  1. 1.Plug in the included power adapter. The screen lights up and the miner opens a WiFi hotspot named Lucky_ followed by a few characters.
  2. 2.Join that hotspot from your phone or laptop. The setup page opens by itself; if not, go to http://192.168.4.1.
  3. 3.Enter your home WiFi name and password (2.4 GHz only), then the pool values above.
  4. 4.Click Save, then Restart. The miner joins your WiFi and shows its new IP address on the screen. Open that address later to check hashrate or change settings.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the factory pool in place. Units ship pointed at a default pool; replace all four fields.
  • Host format: the bare host name works on current firmware. If an older unit refuses to connect, try stratum+tcp://stratum.directpool.io in the Stratum URL field, with 3333 still in Stratum Port.
  • Typing the Bitcoin address by hand. Copy and paste it from your wallet.
  • Using a 5 GHz network or a router that mixes both bands under one name.

After a few minutes, paste your address on the pool page to see the machine. Small miners can take a while to send their first share.

Questions

Lucky Miner LV06 or Bitaxe?
The LV06 is cheaper and comes ready in a case. A Bitaxe Gamma costs more but hashes more than twice as fast for similar power and runs fully open firmware.
Is the Lucky Miner LV06 open source?
The hardware is derived from the open-source Bitaxe Ultra, but the firmware it ships with is a vendor build. Community firmware exists for it.
Which settings do I enter for DirectPool?
Stratum URL stratum.directpool.io, Stratum Port 3333, Stratum User your bc1 address plus .worker, Password x. Save, then Restart.
Can the LV06 really find a block?
It can, since every hash has the same chance, but at 0.5 TH/s the odds are extremely small. In a pool it earns a tiny share of each block the pool finds.
How much does it cost to run?
About 120 kWh a year at 14 W, so about 25 a year at 0.20 per kWh.
